I cleared the library shelf of all 153.35 books last week. These books concern creativity, how to jump-start creative ideas, how to jump off the cliff without concern for the landing, and other metaphors and analogies.
One of the books might help. My soul screams for a creative outlet. I’ve squashed it far too long. Books now lie open or bookmarked all over the house. On the floor. Under a computer. By the table. On the bed. Under the bed.
One book has a warmly colored cover. The Call to Create: Celebrating Acts of Imagination, by Linda Schierse Leonard, Ph.D. She writes:
“I perceive the call to create to be grounded in nature.”
I like that. After that, however, she begins to label types of characters, such as Cynic, and writes about the role in nature. On to the next book.
Walking in this World: The Practical Art of Creativity, by Julia Cameron, has quotes by famous and the not-so famous in the margins. “It is only by risking from one hour to another that we live at all,” writes William James. Cameron uses his quote to discuss experimenting and to avoid panic by treating “ourselves a little like a science project. You will need to try small doses of new identity and see how it wears.”
Some of what Cameron writes might help, in small doses. When I feel itchy and antsy, I pick up her book. If I feel panicked, she writes, tell myself: “Good sign. I am getting unstuck.”
Sadly, however, she, too, drifts into using uppercase labels, i.e., “The Great Creator”, and I put the book down. Many more books to explore.
Just write. You are creative. Put down the books on creativity and simply write. I’m impressed with this site. Woman, you’re talented!
