Hoar frost occurs when water vapor touches a very cold surface and freezes on it instantly. This can happen to the leaves and branches of plants – as on this young birch tree and trunk – and will cover them with ice crystals that look like spiky fingers.
We’ve had some dark, cold days recently. I ran across this online article recently at ReadWritePoem:
“Some of us don’t enjoy the holidays at all. They bring memories we’d rather not look at over and over. Or highlight the families we don’t enjoy or have, the faith systems we don’t hold. Some of us aren’t keen on commercialization of any celebration.”
The writer advises doing something one wouldn’t ordinarily do. Take a two-hour break. Try something different. For me, this usually means getting outdoors. Walking – anywhere. And now I carry a camera when the weather permits.
very, very beautiful – lovely composition…
